The weekend of September 12th & 13th was a weekend full of celebration here at Beaver Creek.
An Open House was held on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. and again on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m.—5:00 p.m. to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first camp held here at Beaver Creek.
Then, on Sunday at 3:00 p.m., a Building Dedication was held to celebrate the completion of our new Beaver Creek / Berkstresser All Seasons Lodge.
Jennifer Talbott, Camp Manager, emceed and welcomed approximately 100 people for the dedication ceremony.
Rebecca Dees, President of the Greater South Fork Foundation Community Board began the ceremony by making the opening remarks, followed by an opening prayer given by Rev. Jeanne
Redshaw of the Bowen & Monte Vista United Methodist Churches.
Roy Ratzlaff, President of the Beaver Creek Camp Commission Board offered remarks followed by George & Alta Berkstresser, Board Members and Fundraising Chairpersons for the new lodge—The Berkstressers being the largest single contributors to the lodge. A scripture reading was offered by Ian Walker.
Additional remarks and thank-you's were offered by Darwin Thompson, Vice-President of the Beaver Creek Board and the Building Project Manager for the new lodge.
David Schneider, then performed a solo, accompanied by Janet Thompson.
Donor recognitions followed naming everyone who has contributed to this building project. Plaques now hang inside the new lodge acknowledging everyone who has made donations towards the new building.
Additional remarks were made by Rev. David Keiry followed by a scripture reading and remarks from youth camper, Isaac Garner and his mother, Tami.
A prayer of dedication was then offered by Rev. James Grunden of the Center and Saguache United Methodist Churches.
Then, the ribbon was cut by Roy Ratzlaff, Darwin Thompson, The Berkstressers, and Grover Hathorn (General Contractor).
A closing song, performed by David Schneider, again accompanied on organ by Janet Thompson, completed the ceremony just before large raindrops began to fall.
Later that afternoon, a worship service was held in the Old Lodge Hall. The music was led by Billy Isidoro, the Worship and Program Director for the youth camps. Joining him playing on bass guitar was Ian Walker and on drums, Alan Hensley, and Jennifer Talbott with background vocals. A sermon was given by Rev. James Grunden of the Center and Saguache United Methodist Church.
All-in-all, it was a wonderful weekend full of celebration with much to be thankful for!!
