There is this story of a mountain climber who, desperate to conquer the Aconcagua (the largest mountain in
South America), initiated his climb after years of preparation. But he wanted the glory to himself, therefore, he
went up alone. He started climbing and it was becoming later, and later. He did not prepare for camping, but
decided to keep on going.
Soon it got dark. Night fell with heaviness at a very high altitude. Visibility was zero. Everything was black.
There was no moon, and the stars were covered by clouds.
As he was climbing a ridge at about 100 meters from the top, he slipped and fell. Falling rapidly he could only see blotches of darkness that passed. He felt a terrible sensation of being sucked in by gravity. He kept falling... and in those anguishing moments good and bad memories passed through his mind. He thought certainly he would die.
But then he felt a jolt that almost tore him in half. Yes! Like any good mountain climber he had staked himself with a long rope tied to his waist. In those moments of stillness, suspended in the air he had no other choice but to shout: "HELP ME GOD. HELP ME!"
All of a sudden he heard a deep voice from heaven... "What do you want me to do?"
     "SAVE ME," he shouts.
"Do you REALLY think that I can save you?" God says.
     "OF COURSE, MY GOD."
"Then cut the rope that is holding you up," God says.
There was another moment of silence and stillness. The man just held tighter to the rope. The rescue team says that the next day they found a frozen mountain climber hanging strongly to a rope... TWO FEET OFF THE GROUND.

All of us are hurt at some point because someone at some point has misused our trust, or completely lost it.  I don't think that there is anyone on this Earth who would disagree with me.  I know that I, as many of us have, been both the victim and the accused.  Friends, teachers, professors, coaches, teammates, roommates, brothers, sisters, and even parents can abuse our trust and it hurts....sometimes really badly.
There is, however, one person that we can ALWAYS trust.  Our Lord God asks us to trust in Him always.  No matter what our troubles, no matter our situation, we can always trust that God will deliver us if it is His will.  I like the song by Shane and Shane called "Burn Us Up."  It talks about a great story that is a perfect example of people who trusted God.  The song comes from a Bible story about three Jewish men who would not bow down to a King Nebuchadnezzar's idol in the city of Babylon.  The punishment for not obeying the king's order was to be thrown in a red hot furnace of fire. The three men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, told the king, "If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.  (Daniel 3:17-18).
The king got real mad and ordered a handful of soldiers to throw them into the fire.  The fire was so hot that even the soldiers were burned to death, bu the three Jewish men were seen walking in the fire, completely unharmed.
Shadrach, Mesach, and Abednego had faith and trust that were extraordinary - "fire-tested."  I think the most profound part of that whole story is how they explained to that king that they knew God COULD save them from that fire, but even if He didn't, that was ok, because they would rater die than bow down to anything other than God, himself.
Do you have trust like that?  If no, what is holding you back?  God won't let you down.  Even though God doesn't always make it comfortable for us, He sent Jesus Christ to be with us to walk through that fire with us.
Psalm 56 3-4 says, When I am afraid, I will trust you.  I praise God for his Word.  I trust God, so I am not afraid.  What can humans do to me?"  Jeremiah 17: 7-8 says, "But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.  He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."
Maybe it's time to turn some things over to God.  Trust in Him.  When he says that He will take care of us, he will.  Don't find yourself dangling from a rope..... listen to him.  Cut. The. Rope.
